RESUMÉ Kyran Casteel is an information scientist with a basic grounding in geology. Having started as a geological and mineral industry information consumer in Zambia he returned to the UK and, since gaining his M.Sc., has spent 30 years as an information provider to mineral based industries. At British Sulphur, the Mining Journal and Metals & Minerals Research he combined commodities market research (phosphates and phosphoric acid, coal, gold, tin, tungsten) with the preparation and publication of related magazines (Phosphorus & Potassium, Sulphur, Mining Journal, Mining Annual Review, Metals Analysis & Outlook, Tin International, Minline), symposium proceedings, reports etc. For Metal Bulletin plc, Kyran's primary focus was the magazine World Mining Equipment plus programming WME mining technology conferences. Since becoming a freelance Kyran has continued to provide articles for WME, mainly on mineral processing topics, and other Metal Bulletin Group magazines, as well as providing visit-based information on mining and quarrying operations for equipment manufacturers (such as Atlas Copco, Caterpillar, Hamm, Nordberg, Sandvik Tamrock) both directly and through PR companies. For Asian Ceramics he edited a Ceramic Plant Design Handbook. Since the 1970s he has contributed regularly to Mining Annual Review and to the monthly African Review of Business & Technology.
